A Phoenician coastline

Day 1

Departure from the historic town of Jbeil to the neighboring town of Amchit, a monumental village with many houses, palaces and churches of character, especially in the heart that remains well preserved.

Visit the village of Eddeh, a coastal village that remains remarkably well preserved and where you can get lost in the charming streets and visit historical monuments. You could extend the pleasure by a walk in the nature reserve of Bentaël, within a few minutes by car.

Head towards the caza of Batroun and stop by the village of Smar Jbeil which houses a remarkable fortress dating back to the time of the Phoenicians and a beautiful old church on the central square (Mar Nohra and Basil). Visit the village of Rachana, a real outdoor sculpture museum where you can admire the work of several generations of artists from the Basbous family as well as architectural houses that make the whole set unique to Lebanon.

Finish the day in the old town of Batroun, the region’s flagship tourist destination, known for its Phoenician wall, its maritime churches, its old paved souk and its animated streets during summer nights.

Day 2

 

Departure from Batroun to the Saydet el-Nouriyeh convent, overlooking Rass-Chekka, which offers an exceptional panorama of the surroundings.

Visit the Crusader castle of Mousseïlha, visible from the highway.

Make a pit stop inside the lands of Koura region to visit the village of Qaftoun and its monastery located on the river, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful of Lebanon.

Head towards the village of Enfeh that could be confused with a Greek village and visit its many attractions including salt marshes, unique to Lebanon, and some of the oldest churches on the coast.

Extend your stay by visiting the neighboring monastery of Balamand, a 12th century Cistercian abbey.
